Story

Olivia Ross, goes by Liv, is a first-generation winemaker born and raised in Ohio. She has worked at wineries harvest hopping to Napa, Sonoma, New Zealand, Australia, Germany, and Berkeley. She achieved her master's degree from UC Davis in Viticulture & Enology in 2019. And in 2020, began Virgo Magic Wines in Berkeley, CA. Outside of wine she reads and continues to work on her tragic novella. Her top controversial opinions are the best era of Fleetwood Mac is the blues era before Nicks & Buckingham, and that black tea is enough in the morning.

2021 Disco Lemonade Riesling

Wirz Vineyard, Cienega Valley, CA

The life of the party when she wants to be. The second vintage of this vivacious Riesling was made in a style Liv had learned working harvest in Southern Germany, which gives a mysterious orange-ish wine texture with an electric zipline of citrus and melon. The Riesling comes from 60+ year-old head trained vines from Wirz Vineyard, organically and dry-farmed in Cienega Valley. It is a zero-zero* wine. Pairs well with cold cuts or Thai food.

2021 'Adriana' Montepulciano

Siletto Vineyard, San Benito County, CA

Dresses and drinks with panache yet charmingly unfussy. This Montepulciano was farmed organically at Siletto Vineyard in Tres Piños whereas the grape is native to eastern central to south regions in Italy. Tying back to her roots, Liv's grandfather immigrated from Molise, in southern Italy, when he came to live in Conneaut, Ohio. This rustic village rendition of Montepulciano was fermented spontaneously for a week and then aged in barrel for a year. There is tannin with structure like the statues in a piazza and dark-fruit notes as deep as the Elena Ferrante Neapolitan novels. Pairs well with mortadella, a Sunday red sauce, and The Sopranos – after all this wine is named after Adriana La Cerva.
